Introduction

Voltd LLC ("Voltd," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Voltd mobile application (the "App") and the website voltd.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use them.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

Account Information

• Phone number (for sign-in and account verification)
• Username (unique identifier you choose)
• Display name
• Profile photo, bio, and profile link (optional)

Activity Information

• The location you choose when you create a Zap, Check-in, or Plan (your current spot, a dropped pin, or a place you search for)
• Activity details: place name, title, message, start and end time, and who you sent it to
• Who joins your activities, and the activities you join
• Friend connections, friend requests, and groups
• Messages you send in activity and group chats

Optional Information (only with your permission)

• Contacts: phone numbers from your contacts are sent securely to our servers only to check which of your contacts use Voltd. They are compared and then discarded. We do not store your contacts or the numbers of people who don't use Voltd.
• Calendar: if you choose to add a Plan to your calendar, it is added on your device only. We never read or upload your calendar.
• Camera and photos: used only for the profile photo you pick.

Safety Information

• Reports you submit, including a copy of the reported content
• The list of people you have blocked

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Authenticate your account and verify your identity
• Show your activities and location to the people you choose
• Send push notifications for friend requests, activities, and messages (if enabled)
• Help you find friends who use Voltd
• Create share links you choose to send
• Review reports, enforce our Terms of Service, and keep Voltd safe
• Provide and maintain App functionality
• Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
• Send you technical notices and support messages

How We Share Your Information

Service Providers

• Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions
• Twilio: sending SMS verification codes
• Expo: delivering push notifications
• Mapbox: maps and place search (the searches you type)
• Netlify: hosting voltd.app

These providers process information only on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service.

Public Information and Share Links

Most of Voltd is private to you and the people you choose. A small amount of information can be seen more widely:

• Other Voltd users can find your display name, username, profile photo, bio, and profile link (for example, in search). People you've blocked, or who have blocked you, can't.
• Your profile photo is stored at a web address that anyone who has the link can open.
• Share links (voltd.app/@username, voltd.app/z/…, voltd.app/g/…) show a preview to anyone who opens them, even without the App. The preview shows only: a display name and username for profiles; the creator's name, and the title for Plans; and the name and member count for groups.

Share link previews never show a location, time, message, photo, or phone number. Links to Zaps and Check-ins only open in the App for people you invited. Links to Plans can be opened by anyone you send them to. All activity links stop working when the activity ends.

Data Retention

• Exact location: the coordinates and street address of a Zap, Check-in, or Plan are permanently deleted within about a minute of it ending or being cancelled
• Activity history: the rest of the activity (type, place name, title, message, time, and who joined) stays in your history until you delete your account
• Messages: kept until you delete your account
• Contacts: never stored
• Reports: kept as long as needed to keep Voltd safe and meet legal obligations. If the person who filed a report deletes their account, their identity is removed from it
• Push tokens: removed when you sign out or delete your account
• Account information: kept until you delete your account
• Location history: we do NOT keep a history of where you've been

Data Security

Your information is protected with access controls so that only the people you've chosen can see it, and it is encrypted in transit and at rest. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Your Data Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal information
• Correct inaccurate information (Profile → Edit Profile)
• Delete your account and associated data
• Opt out of push notifications
• Refuse location, contacts, calendar, camera, or photo permissions (some features won't work without them)
• Remove friends, leave groups, and block people at any time

To delete your account, go to Profile → Delete Account in the App. This permanently deletes your profile, photos, phone number, friendships, activities, and messages. For any other request, email hi@voltd.app.

Location Information

• We only access your location while you're using the App, to show the map and when you create an activity
• Sharing a location is always your choice, and you pick who sees it each time
• We do NOT track your location in the background
• Exact coordinates are deleted when the activity ends; only the place name stays in your history
• Your live position is never stored on our servers

Safety: Reports and Blocking

• You can report any profile, activity, group, or message. Reports go only to the Voltd team; the person you report is not told who reported them
• We review reports within 24 hours and may remove content or accounts that break our Terms of Service
• When you block someone, neither of you can see the other's profile, activities, or messages, and they aren't notified

Children's Privacy

Voltd is not intended for users under 17 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 17, we will take steps to delete such information.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction. If you are located outside the United States and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the information to the United States and process it there.

Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Voltd, such as links people add to their profiles or groups. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third parties.

California Privacy Rights

California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). These rights include:

• Right to know what personal information is collected
• Right to know whether personal information is sold or disclosed
• Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information
• Right to deletion
• Right to non-discrimination

We do not sell personal information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" above, and we'll tell you in the App about significant changes.
